The Focusing course gives you the basic skills of Focusing and being a Focusing Companion.
The course is divided into 5 Levels or modules. Each Level takes one weekend to learn.
You can take the weekend workshops one at a time, joining the next series when it suits you, or you can take the course as a whole.
You will need about a month to five weeks to integrate your learning before doing the next one. Levels 1 and 2 give you the basics and Levels 3, 4 and 5 develop your listening skills further.
It is not a professional qualification, but it is required if you want to go on and do further training towards becoming a Focusing professional.
This course is recognised by The British Focusing Association (BFA), and is known as The Focusing Skills Certificate Course. The course is experiential, with plenty of opportunity to practice.
The whole course is 60 guided learning hours of personal growth and development.
These workshops need to be taken in sequential order.
Learn how to Focus with a Companion.
Learn how to be a Focusing Companion.
Learn how to become present to your experience.
Develop a base for integrating Focusing into your life.
For your own personal growth and development.
Outcomes of each level:
Level 1: Introduction to Focusing
Learn how to listen to your inner wisdom through creating a positive inner relationship with yourself. Develop the knowledge and skills to begin to practise Focusing alone, and to begin to listen to an other, so you can Focus with a companion. By the end of Level 1, you will have a basic understanding of the Focusing process.
Level 2: Being a Focusing Companion
Practise the listening skills that enable you to companion someone else in a Focusing partnership. Expand your Focusing skills. Release blocks and stuck places. Unleash your creative energy. By the end of Level 2, you will be able to join a peer group of Focusers, form a Focusing partnership, and attend further or advanced classes and workshops.
Level 3: Companionship
Learn how to support the Inner Relationship of the Focuser with their felt experience. Deepen your own Focusing skills. By the end of Level 3, you will have a deeper understanding of the Focusing process, and will be able to guide yourself through the process. You will also be able to support another Focuser with your listening skills.
Level 4: Reminders
Learn how to offer reminding suggestions in a Focusing partnership. This takes you deeper into the heart of the Focusing Process, and the relationship between a Focuser and their companion. By the end of Level 4, you will be able to offer guiding suggestions to your Focusing partner, and to extend your ability to self-guide.
Level 5: Applied Focusing
Learn more about ‘Presence and partiality’, and develop your ability to be fully with whatever needs you attention; and the biases that can interfere with that. Make Focusing fully your own. Bring your questions, and explore how you can apply your Focusing practice in your life and work.
